The big news in Chicago today was that we will not be hosting the 2016 Olympic Games. What shocks people so much isn’t that we lost out to Rio, but that we were eliminated in the first round of voting.

I did a “Big 55″ workout at the fire station again today. This time my two exercises were:
- power clean & press with 65 lbs
- pull downs with 100 lbs.
Total time for the workout was 15 minutes, 20 seconds. This combination isn’t as strenuous as yesterday’s. I was never in danger of puking. But my arms are pretty shot right now. Typing is kind of a challenge.
I’m really liking this workout template. It’s quick, it’s full body, and it’s very challenging. I’m not sure how well it addresses my goals of increasing my one rep max type strength. But it’s certainly not hurting, and it’s better than not exercising at all.

So it has been about two weeks since I made it to the gym. There have been a lot of reasons: I’ve been working, and we went to Deltaville, etc.. But the bottom line is I think this gym idea isn’t panning out. It is time to come up with a new plan.
Today I tried a new workout I read about on the internet called “The Big 55″. You can read about it here if you like, just scroll down to “Challenge #2″. I did modify it a bit: Dan John suggests using swings and goblet squats as the exercises, but I decided to do front squats and deadlifts. Basically the “Big 55″ involves picking two big exercises, and doing 55 reps of each by doing a set of 10 of the first, 10 of the second, 9 of the first, 9 of the second, etc. You are not supposed to rest between sets.

Last weekend we went on an awesome trip to Deltaville, VA to witness the marriage of my brother Mark & my new sister Molly. Deltaville is a vacation resort town on the Chesapeake. Molly’s family owns a cottage on the bay, and the wedding was on the beach in front of the cottage. Molly’s family was kind enough to arrange to let us stay a beautiful cottage owned by their cousins.

Made it to the gym today. The squat rack was busy, so I started on my pull ups until the guy was done.

Since there is more to life than exercise, I should probably catch everyone up on what’s been going on lately.
